For Those in Peril on the Sea
(William Whiting)
Eternal Father, strong to save
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave.
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep
Oh hear us when we cry to thee
For those in peril on the sea.
O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy word
Who walked'st on the foaming deep
And calm amidst its rage didst sleep.
Oh hear us when we cry to thee
For those in peril on the sea.
Most Holy Spirit! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease
And give, for wild confusion, peace
Oh hear us when we cry to thee
For those in peril on the sea.
O Trinity of love and power
Our brethren shield in danger's hour
From rock and tempest, fire and foe
Protect them wheresoe'er they go.
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.

Welcome back to the real world
Jeanne and I are finally out of the hospital, and boy is it a relief! She's perfectly healthy (turns out she didn't have an infection after all, but had to stay to finish the course of antibiotics). The hospital was amazing, and the doctors and nurses just wonderful, but its great to finally be able to sleep in my own bed.
Labour was harder than I'd ever imagined, especially since it took 27 hours start to finish. I ended up having an epidural, though I hadn't planned on one, but I have absolutely no regrets. Jeanne was having a bit of trouble near the end, and a cesarean was discussed, but that was just further motivation for me to try harder than even, and in the end I only pushed for an hour. I'm tired, and sore, but happy as can be. Jeanne is breastfeeding really really well, and it seems like I've got enough milk for a couple dozen babies, but its finally starting to settle down (after a few days of looking like Dolly Parton!)
Jake has been an incredible help throughout this whole process, and I am just so grateful that I chose such a wonderful and amazing man to be the father of my child.

9 months and still no baby
Sorry I haven't posted in so long, but things have been busy here at the Cotter house, and there hasn't been much to report on the baby front.
Today is officially my due date and still no baby! I've had tons of contractions over the last week, some even regularly 5 minutes apart, but it never amounted to anything, and all the contractions stopped as soon as I went to bed at night.
I haven't had any for the past couple days, and in fact I am so confident that this baby isn't going to come that Jake, Gram and I are going out to a dinner theatre tonight. I figure that babies always come at the most inconvenient times, and that I've been making it too easy on it, what with staying at home and getting lots of rest, so if I go out for the evening the baby is sure to come. Right?
As a side note, here is a funny article I found on-line: enjoy the South Queensferry burry man!
