Why babies can't sit in chairs (and Happy Thanksgiving!)
Every morning you greet me
Small and white, clean and bright
You look happy to meet me
Blossom of snow may you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever
Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever

Stuff
Jeanne has been very colicky over the last couple days, and hasn't been sleeping well, but other than some serious sleep deprivation things are going well here at the Cotter residence. I think the cats are finally forgiving us for having been gone so long, and are starting to fatten up a bit. I start my mother and baby fitness class tomorrow (hopefully, if they don't cancel it), and I'll be going into it with the grand old motto: "whatever doesn't kill me will only make me stronger."
This is the first time I've gotten the chance to use the computer in a while, but here are a couple things to interest/amuse you:
- A great classic commercial for the Honda Accord
- What would it be like to be born without fingerprints?
- something to make you think

Stand by for long load times...
Here are the pictures of our trip to Ontario I promised the other day. Our thanks goes out to great-uncle Jim and his marvelous SLR for many of these pics:

Welcome back Cotters
We're finally back in Halifax, and boy is it nice to be home. We took the train back from Kingston yesterday and got home today after a lovely night in a sleeper car (so cool!) The exhaustion of the past few weeks has finally knocked us flat, though, so you're just going to have to wait a day for a longer posting and pictures. Remember, patience is a virtue!

In memoriam
Edward "Ted" Maidman (Veteran WWII)
Peacefully on Monday, August 28, 2006 at the Oshawa General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, in his 82nd year. Beloved husband of Joan for 59 years. Adored father of Marie and Margaret (Jim Rhodes). Always "Old Gramps" to Ted Girard (Marnie), Jake Cotter (Ellen), and Becca Rhodes. New "Great Old Gramps" to Sam Girard and Jeanne Cotter. Ted was a veteran of World War II, serving aboard the HMCS Skeena and HMCS Ottawa in the North Atlantic. He was a proud member of the Navy Club of Oshawa and the Royal Canadian Legion. His interest in people started at an early age with his involvement in Scouts Canada and continued throughout his life with Canadian Master's Running, Oshawa Cycle Club, Kiwanis, and the Senior Citizens' Centres.
Family and friends will be received at the MOUNT LAWN RECEPTION CENTRE, 21 Garrard Rd., Whitby (just north of Hwy 2) from 6-9 pm on Wednesday, August 30, 2006. A Memorial Service to celebrate Ted's life will be held on Thursday, August 31st, 2006 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ted's memory may be directed to the Sea Cadets - HMCS Skeena, Port Hope (905) 665-0600 or to the charity of your choice.
For Those in Peril on the Sea
(William Whiting)
Eternal Father, strong to save
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave.
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep
Oh hear us when we cry to thee
For those in peril on the sea.
O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy word
Who walked'st on the foaming deep
And calm amidst its rage didst sleep.
Oh hear us when we cry to thee
For those in peril on the sea.
Most Holy Spirit! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease
And give, for wild confusion, peace
Oh hear us when we cry to thee
For those in peril on the sea.
O Trinity of love and power
Our brethren shield in danger's hour
From rock and tempest, fire and foe
Protect them wheresoe'er they go.
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.

Welcome back to the real world
Jeanne and I are finally out of the hospital, and boy is it a relief! She's perfectly healthy (turns out she didn't have an infection after all, but had to stay to finish the course of antibiotics). The hospital was amazing, and the doctors and nurses just wonderful, but its great to finally be able to sleep in my own bed.
Labour was harder than I'd ever imagined, especially since it took 27 hours start to finish. I ended up having an epidural, though I hadn't planned on one, but I have absolutely no regrets. Jeanne was having a bit of trouble near the end, and a cesarean was discussed, but that was just further motivation for me to try harder than even, and in the end I only pushed for an hour. I'm tired, and sore, but happy as can be. Jeanne is breastfeeding really really well, and it seems like I've got enough milk for a couple dozen babies, but its finally starting to settle down (after a few days of looking like Dolly Parton!)
Jake has been an incredible help throughout this whole process, and I am just so grateful that I chose such a wonderful and amazing man to be the father of my child.
And, for all our loyal viewers out there, here are a few more pictures:
